Lapsang Souchong Tea Cake was originally called Bohea in Europe and is the first black tea ever produced. PeLi Teas Lapsang Souchong Tea Cake is produced using lapsang souchong grown in the Tongmu production area of the Wuyishan Mountains of Fujian.

PeLi Teas' lapsang souchong is picked only in the spring from an area of approximately 600 square kilometers in the Wuyishan National Nature Reserve. This pristine Nature Reserve is birthplace of Lapsang Souchong (Bohea) and Wuyi Rock Tea (Var Bohea), and the most famous tribute tea of the Song and Yuan Dynasties “Dragon and Phoenix Cake Tea.”

Our Lapsang Souchong is produced from different cultivars of wild small leafed tea plants that are cross bred to create a heartier uniform size tea leaf for producing the tea. Our high quality and genuine Lapsang Souchong is made of hand-picked, tender leaves picked only during spring season between April 18th and May 30th.

The tea leaves are rolled to release enzymes that cause the leaves to oxidize completely. After the tea leaves are fully oxidized, they are dried on bamboo trays over pine embers. The smoking wood for Lapsang Souchong is a special pine core in very limited supply and grown in the same area our tea is produced. It takes a highly skilled tea master to produce PeLi Teas pleasing pine and longan flavored tea. After our tea is dried, it is winnowed, sorted and graded.
